Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School Prom
Prom is an important night in every teen’s life, but for seniors at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School, the event served as an immensely hopeful celebration and a night to remember those lost.
On May 6, 2018, months after a mass shooting killed 17 members of the Parkland, Florida school community on Feb 14, students came together to attend their senior prom, and honor the four seniors killed in the attack.
Butterflies were released from the building’s rooftop during the evening.
Using the hashtag #msdprom18, students gave the world a look at their night of togetherness and displays of immense strength.
The celebration was utterly beautiful.
The prom was held at the Westin Fort Lauderdale Beach Resort, which covered the cost of the event. Decorations, food, production equipment and DJ services were also donated by vendors, according to NBC News.
The hotel’s ballroom was adorned with trees, and included actors dressed as forest creatures and fairies. Attendees were greeted with a large ice sculpture in the hallway that read “#MSDSTRONG” and had access to an outside room for quiet reflection.
VER, working closely with PSAV, fully supported the event and cause, and contributed high-end gear to add to the extraordinary atmosphere: 200 tiles of ROE VR3, LED Engineering Support, 8 Clay Paky Sharpy lights, 8 Clay Paky Sharpy wash lights and 4 Mac Viper Profiles.
The tables at the event featured beautifully lit, four-foot floral centerpieces.
